PantryThe key to ease in cooking is having a well-stocked pantry, (or in my case, the hall closet.) That way I have on hand to make nearly every recipe whenever I feel the urge to cook without having to run to the grocery store.

First, take an inventory of what you already have, and make a mental note of the items that you use most often. (Sometime I think that I just can't have enough tomato paste!) Then make sure that all items are not passed the expiration date. Remember, even cans don't last forever. Make a shopping list of things you need to replace, then it's off to the grocery store!

The following is just a recommended list of grocery items that should cover most of your cooking needs.

Canned Products 
Whole, crushed, stewed tomatoes
Tomato paste and sauce
Chicken and beef broth
Soups
A variety of canned beans
A variety of canned vegetables
Tuna

Boxed and Bagged Products
White and brown rice
A variety of pasta
Oatmeal and other cereal
Flour
Baking soda and powder
A variety of sugars
Cornmeal
Cornstarch
Cocoa powder
Unsweetened and semi-sweet chocolate
Dried fruits and vegetables

Miscellaneous Grocery Items
Peanut Butter
A variety of jellies and jams
