Have you ever noticed what
your mother does to honor and assist the people she loves? Does she
offer to pick up dry cleaning or swing by the grocery store to help
out her own mom, sister, or son? Does she willingly give of her time
to babysit your kids or spend Saturday afternoons baking gourmet
treats for friends, neighbors, and coworkers?
All of these endeavors are indicative of the efforts mothers make for
the people they care most about. And if we're paying attention, we'll
recognize that oftentimes the gifts our mothers give to others are
what they would most love to receive themselves... gifts of time.
This year, pay tribute to your mother by giving her the most
cherished gift of all -- a few hours of your time. Run errands for
her, wash her car, and stop at the pharmacy to pick up her
prescriptions. Or straighten up that closet in the upstairs bedroom
that's driving her crazy. Better yet, tackle the weeds in her yard,
then spruce it up with splashes of color. Can't you just imagine her
delight when she catches a glimpse of the flowerbed you've filled
with all her springtime favorites -- pansies, petunias, and tiny pink
carnations? And consider your own pleasure when you're able to bask
in the warmth of her appreciation -- all because you have adorned the
back porch with pots of marigolds, daisies, and plenty of pansies. Or
perhaps you'll go all-out this year and present Mom with a small
backyard butterfly garden filled with lantana, butterfly brush, and
tons of rosemary, lavender, and lily of the valley. Add finishing
touches such as a birdbath and a feeder, and she'll be the envy of
the neighborhood.
This is your opportunity to do something truly memorable for your
mother. Let her know how much you love and appreciate her by giving
her your most precious commodity...the gift of time.
Children's meals have to be easy, delicious and nutritious. Getting kids to eat vegetables is a major task.
Finding a way to get vegetables into the mouths of kids is easy if they are part of the fun. Creating ways to
get kids to help with the preparation and the cooking of kids' recipes is part of the fun.
