Retro Beach Bash: A Sun Lover’s Guide to Food and Fun
Review by Cheri Sicard
I love Collector’s Press entire series of "Retro" books -- they’re fun, gorgeously produced, contain quality articles and recipes and make wonderful gifts.
Retro Beach Bash is a fabulous addition to the library as it gives all the information necessary to make the most of a day at the beach. Half information and half cookbook, you’ll reminisce about such nostalgic activities as beach combing and kite flying, learn how to make the best sand castle on the beach, and find ideas for other popular beach games and sports, including surfing.
After you’ve browsed the pages that are chock full with beach fun tips and advice, it’s time to eat. The second half of this book is a cookbook, complete with fabulous picnic and grilled foods to satisfy every appetite at the beach.
The entire book is done in full color with lots of great 50s style artwork and photos, giving it a kitschy nostalgic feel that makes it fun to browse through. But more than kitsch, there’s lots of useful information and terrific recipes here.
Chapters include:
Castles in the Sand
Dragons in the Sky -- Kites
Let’s go Surfin’
Good Clean Fun -- Beach Games and Sports
Footprints in the Sand -- Beachcombing
The Word is Safer, Not Surfer -- Safety info for sun, surf, wildlife and driving
Picnic Provisions: breads, sides, snacks, sweets, beverages, salads, appetizers and more.
BBQ and grilling
Fire n Fare -- The Fine Art of Toasting Marshmallows

Let's Get Cooking!

reason is that by teaching your child to cook, you're giving him a better chance to be a healthy grown-up. Enabling your child with the ability
to appreciate freshness and to transform ingredients into tasty foods opens their eyes to making wiser choices about what to eat...
