The Christmas and New Year's holidays are
fleeting memories, the Superbowl has come
and gone, and the humdrum of everyday life
is destined to continue unabated all the
way to Memorial Day. Ouch! Are you looking
for a reason to celebrate, party, indulge,
or just plain old get festive? Look no
further - I've got just the ticket.
Hop aboard the chocolate train, folks, and
we'll tour the excessive and overindulge
during one of my favorite weeks of the
year - American Chocolate Week/March
14th-20th. Yes, I said CHOCOLATE! Snap to
attention chocoholics and join me in doing
our patriotic duty. It's purported that
the average American consumes around 11
pounds of chocolate per year. I don't know
about you, but I'm definitely not average.
I, for one, will be truthful and 'fess up
here - I could eat that much chocolate in
less than a month! Besides, new medical
evidence reveals that chocolate is
actually good for you. A recent article in
the Lancet Medical Journal reported that
some types of chocolate contain catechins,
a chemical that could prevent cancer and
heart disease. This is exactly the kind of
justification I need to celebrate this
week in real style.
As a true connoisseur and devout
chocoholic, let me guide you through a
sublime week of indulgences that will
ensure this year's American Chocolate Week
is a raging success. First, we should
start with a box of the world's absolute
finest chocolate confections -
Godiva Chocolates. Seriously,
Godiva is to the chocolate industry what
Intel is to the tech industry. If you've
never had a Godiva chocolate experience,
let this week be your initiation. Next,
let's move on to chocolate cheesecake. I
don't know who to credit for this divine
combination, but they deserve a medal.
Other appropriate decadences include
brownies, fudge, and our favorite little
chocolate candies, perfect for those on
the road chocolate fixes, M&M's. Of
course, no celebration of chocolate would
be complete without chocolate ice cream.
An appropriate poisin of choice here would
be my own creation - Triple Chocolate
Overload Ice Cream. This is not for the
faint of heart (or palate) chocolate
lovers; only the most dedicated chocolate
fans will be able to choke down this
exceedingly rich combination of three
forms of chocolate. And finally, there is
chocolate mousse, German chocolate cake,
chocolate French silk pie, chocolate chip
cookies . .
Succumb to your cravings friends; this
week comes but once a year.

Finding a way to get vegetables into the mouths of kids is easy if they are part of the fun. Creating ways to
get kids to help with the preparation and the cooking of kids' recipes is part of the fun.
